Himalayan Buddhist Meditation Centre (HBMC) for Mahayana Buddhist studies was founded in 1982 by Lama Thubten Yeshe and Lama ThubtenZopa Rinpoche as an urban center for meditation, study and spiritual practice. HBMC is run under the spiritual guidance of Kyabje Lama ThubtenZopa Rinpoche and is one of the many global Buddhist centers affiliated with the Foundation for the Preservation of the Mahayana Tradition. www.fpmt.org

Following our founders' and present spiritual director, Kyabje Lama Zopa Rinpoche's advice, the aim of the HBMC is to provide a place in Kathmandu where resident foreigners and international travelers, as well as the Nepali and Tibetan communities, can meet, learn and practice the Buddha’s teachings. HBMC is also serving as a platform to introduce people to the many holy places in the Kathmandu Valley.

Himalayan Buddhist Meditation Center is now located inside a peaceful courtyard in the center of Thamel, Kathmandu. Our center is located on the top floor of the Himalayan Yoga Hotel, with our library and bookshop on the bottom floor adjacent to the entrance to the courtyard. We are open seven days a week, and have a different program everyday, we hope to see you soon!
