The Himalayan Buddhist Meditation Centre (HBMC) for Mahayana Buddhist studies was founded in 1982 by the late Lama Thubten Yeshe and Lama Thubten Zopa Rinpoche as an urban centre for meditation, study and spiritual practice. HBMC is run under the spiritual guidance of Kyabje Lama Thubten Zopa Rinpoche and is the Kathmandu city centre of the Foundation for the Preservation of the Mahayana Tradition. www.fpmt.org

Following our founders and present spiritual director, Kyabje Lama Zopa Rinpoche's advice, the aim of the HBMC is to provide a place in Kathmandu where resident foreigners and international travelers as well as the Nepali and Tibetan communities, who share a common heritage ¬- after all, the Buddha was born in Lumbini in present day Nepal- can meet, learn and practice the precious Buddha’s teachings, as well as serving as a platform to direct those who come to visit us to the many holy places in this blessed land.
